This notice explains what happens to the information you give us when you use this website to offer a story for the book A Series of Shifts. We’ve tried to keep it short and in plain English.

Who we are

This website is run by Adam Kenny-Singh, who decides how your information is used. This is known as being the “data controller”. You can contact us at support@aseriesofshifts.com.

What information we collect

  • Your email address or phone number (required, so we can contact you)
  • Your name or alias (optional)
  • Which emergency service you work in (optional)
  • A short teaser of your story (optional)
  • A voice note of your story, if you send one after we get in touch

We don’t need your real name, and you can contact us using an email address that doesn’t identify you.

Why we collect it, and our legal basis

We use your information only to get in touch with you about your story and, if you agree, to include it in the book. We rely on your consent, which you give by ticking the box on the form. You can withdraw your consent at any time by emailing us, and we’ll stop using your information.

Voice notes and your story

If you send a voice note, we’ll listen to it and may write it up so it can be used in the book. We will keep the recording until the book is published, then delete it. Please don’t include names of patients, colleagues, members of the public or anything else that could identify them, and avoid details that could identify you if you want to stay anonymous.

Staying anonymous

All submissions can remain fully anonymous. We will not publish your name, your service or any identifying details unless you agree in writing. Before publication we will let you read how your story appears.

Who sees your information

Your story and contact details are seen only by us. They are also stored and handled by the services we use to run this site and receive your messages: our web host (Namecheap), our email provider (Namecheap) and the form software on this site. We don’t sell your information or share it for advertising.

Where it is stored

Your form entries are stored on our website’s database, hosted by Namecheap in the UK.

How long we keep it

We keep your contact details until the book is published, and then delete them. You can ask us to delete your information sooner at any time.

Your rights

You have the right to ask us for a copy of the information we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, to limit how we use it, and to withdraw your consent. To use any of these rights, email support@aseriesofshifts.com.

Cookies and fonts

This site doesn’t use advertising cookies. It may use cookies that are strictly necessary for it to work or stay secure. The site loads fonts from Google, which means your IP address is sent to Google when you visit.

If you’re unhappy

Please contact us first so we can try to put things right. You also have the right to complain to the data protection regulator: in the UK, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk), and in Ireland, the Data Protection Commission (dataprotection.ie).

If we change this notice, we’ll update the date at the top of this page.
